What it looks like
The Lightning is an Epic card that is unlocked from the Frozen Peak (Arena 8). It is a multi-damage, air-targeting spell with a medium radius and very high damage. When used, it can stun enemies in its radius for 0.5 seconds. The three troops that are targeted are always the three that have the highest hitpoints within its radius. It is a deep blue liquid encased in a large vial. A Lightning card costs 6 Elixir to deploy.
Trivia
- Electricity was first detected through electric fish from as far back as 2750 BCE where Ancient Egyptian texts described them as the "protectors" of all other fish. At around 600 BCE, Thales of Miletus made a series of observations on static electricity, from which he believed that friction rendered amber magnetic, in contrast to minerals such as magnetite, which needed no rubbing. Thales was incorrect in believing the attraction was due to a magnetic effect, but later science would prove a link between magnetism and electricity. Electricity would remain little more than an intellectual curiosity for millennia until 1600, when the English scientist William Gilbert wrote De Magnete, in which he made a careful study of electricity and magnetism, distinguishing the lodestone effect from static electricity produced by rubbing amber. The Lightning is 1 of 11 cards associated with electricity, with the others being Electro Spirit, Zap, Tesla, Zappies, Electro Dragon, Electro Giant, Electro Wizard, Sparky, Wizard Trio, and the Goblinstein.
- The Lightning is 1 of 7 spells which first existed in Clash of Clans, the others being Earthquake, Heal, Freeze, Poison, Rage, and Clone. It resembles the older iteration of the Lightning spell in Clash of Clans that took 2 housing spaces and fired multiple individual strikes. However, unlike the said spell, the Clash Royale iteration fires up to 3 lightning bolts that could stun enemies and only targeted one enemy, whereas its Clash of Clans counterpart fired 6 bolts that could not stun enemies and could deal area damage.
- The Lightning is tied with Rocket for the most expensive spell, costing 6 Elixir, excluding the Mirror as it does not have a defined Elixir cost.
- Although the Lightning has a circular radius, unlike the Zap, it does not inflict area damage. Instead only the highest health troops there are targeted.
- The Lightning, along with the Heal, Freeze, Rage, and The Log, are featured as a spell in Squad Busters.
- The Master 3 League badge resembles a Lightning spell bottle.
- The Lightning has been featured in multiple special game modes outside of the card. More specifically: The Lightning is 1 of 4 spells that have been featured in the Global Spell game mode, the others being Heal, Freeze, and Rage. The Lightning is 1 of 5 spells that have been featured in the Spell Cauldron sub-mode of the Treasure Hunt game mode, the others being Heal, Freeze, Rage, and Clone.
- It is 1 of 12 cards that is unavailable in Chess Royale, the others being Royal Recruits, Rocket, Earthquake, Poison, Goblin Drill, Miner, Golden Knight, Skeleton King, Archer Queen, Mighty Miner, and the Monk.
- The Lightning is the subject of a few Clan badges.
- The Lightning was featured in the winning decks of multiple Clash Royale Tournaments. More specifically: The Lightning was featured in the winning deck of the Super Magical Cup Tournament, by a player called CMcHugh. The Lightning was featured in the winning deck of the King's Cup Tournament, by a player called TMD YAOYAO.
- Before the Lightning's card release, the Lightning's damage was increased by 8%.
